Expo Signage

This massive amount of signage was designed for a former client that was starting up a new touring expo. I did not design the logo, but I did come up with the initial design for what would become their look. After the client chose their colors, I came up with the “blocky” look that appears in almost all of the pieces. The client also wanted to use a lot of photos. Lucky for them, we had just discovered iStockPhoto, the best, cheapest place to find stock photos (no, I’m not sponsored by them, I just think they’re that good.)

Their entrance unit consisted of many, many pieces that were built up around the main entrance of the expo hall. A schedule of events, of future shows, legal disclaimers, specific areas and the times of the shows were all clearly displayed on this entrance unit.

We designed a booth for the organizers of the event, registration booths, ticket windows, areas where people could register to win money, show guides, coupons, ads, signs and banners to promote the special guests and more elements than I care to remember. A lot of these pieces were very large, so we were working with very large files. It’s amazing how a handful 600 Mb Photoshop files can slow down your work day.

Throughout the building and the main hall were dozens of signs that we created to help brand the show. The Creative Director and I created all of these pieces in a short amount of time. Of course, this project came about right around the time of my wedding. I returned from a week off to more work than I could imagine. 12-15 hour days became the norm for a month while working on this launch. Luckily, my brand new bride was very understanding.

This client proved to be a TON of work, but we all learned a lot from this experience.
