For over ten years, I have been a professional Graphic Designer and Web Developer. I graduated from Keene State College with a bachelors of science degree in Graphic Design and a minor in Art. Since then I have worked in many different aspects of Design.
Originally I started out wanting to be an illustrator. A comic book illustrator, specifically. While I was in college, two things happend; the comic book industry fell apart and I discovered computer design. I had done freelance illustration work going back as far as middle school, but I found that using the computer allowed me to be as precise as I wanted.
My first “real” job was at Checkerbee Publishing in Middletown, CT. There I worked on Price Guides for all types of collectables. While working there, I excelled at using Quark XPress and Photoshop. From creating images for each page, to laying out the price guide section, to organizing the index, I did a lot of the grunt work. I also helped with some of the creation of the film that was sent off to the printer. We worked under some pretty intense deadlines before the company closed their doors in 2001.
Following that, I worked at Time Frame, Inc in Peterborough, NH. Time Frame specialized in creating stickers for the trophy industry. It was a much smaller company (six full timers) than I had been used to. My job was primarily recreating logos in Illustrator. I worked along side a couple of other graphic artists that really helped push my Illustrator skills. I became very efficient at recognizing fonts and creating clip art. I also developed a couple of new catalogs. Time Frame also provided my first taste of web design. It was during this time that I created my first (really bad) website.
After a move to Boston, I worked at Comprehensive ID Products for a short time. I worked in the Custom Products office at CIPI. We would spend our days putting corporate logos or sayings on lanyards or ID badge reels. It wasn’t long after I started there that I received a call from Twins Enterprise, a company to which I had applied before landing the CIPI job.
Twins Enterprise is the company that owns all of the stores around Fenway Park. They also happen to be the largest baseball cap company in America. I was hired to be a cap and website designer. During the two and a half years that I worked there, I designed the Twins website twice. I was lucky enough to learn Dreamweaver and Flash during this time. I also designed catalogs for the Red Sox Team Store for the 2005 Holidays and the 2006 Season. It was quite an experience working on Yawkey Way, especially during the 2004 Red Sox season.
Since then, I have been the Art Director at Single Source Marketing in Danvers, MA. This has been my first agency experience, and it’s remarkable how different it is than being an in-house designer. We have worked with a bunch of different clients who all have different needs and design styles. I’ve worked on everything from business cards to billboards.
On a personal note, I married my wife Jess in April of 2007 in Las Vegas and we have since settled down in southern New Hampshire.
Thank you for checking out my website and if you have any questions or graphic design needs, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
